Gout and about
I have discovered, or rather been painfully reminded, this week there can be consequences for having too much fun. Namely, gout. Serves you right, I hear you say. But it is, painfully dull.

Happy birthday to us – with the emphasis on happy
It used to be said by insurance salesmen of the old school, that the way to sell life assurance was to ‘scare ‘em to death’. So if the salesman was talking to a couple, he’d start talking to the woman. Often the man would interject fairly quickly. The salesman would say to the woman, “No, imagine that he’s dead”. The man would often just keep going. At this point the salesman would get out a small coffin and say, “No, you’re in there!”

Low interest rates abound, time for a Windfall?
Water, water everywhere and no a drop to drink, quoted the Ancient Mariner. Coleridge’s great words were about being left adrift in a small boat with a grand thirst and nothing but the undrinkable sea all around. There seems a parallel in this age’s ultra low interest rate environment. It seems increasingly hard to find anywhere to save your cash with any hope of a decent return.

Perusing The Sunday Times this weekend (January 18, 2016) I was titillated to read that a writer, who will be 50 this year, was given £10 in Premium Bonds by a relative in 1966.
